—M-L-B—Tigers are in first place alone!
The Detroit Tigers are in sole possession of first place in the AL Central as they beat the Kansas City Royals, 5-4, and the White Sox fell to the Indians 6 to 4 last night.
The Tigers scored the go-ahead run in the eighth inning as Andy Dirks broke up a double play, allowing pinch-runner Don Kelly to score.
Starter Rick Porcello went four innings. He gave up four runs on seven hits.
Joaquin Benoit got the win and Jose Valverde notched his 32nd save of the year.
Alex Avila hit a two-run homer and Austin Jackson hit a solo shot in the fourth.
Miguel Cabrera went 0-for-4 on the night, but still leads the league in batting average (.327), RBI’s (133), but is now tied for second in home runs (42).
In this afternoon’s series finale, Doug Fister starts for the Tigers against the Royals Luis Mendoza. First pitch is 1:05 p.m.
—N-F-L—Regular Officials are back!
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell says regular officials will be on the field for tonight’s Browns-Ravens game.
The NFL had been using replacement refs since the previous labor agreement with the regular officials expired in June.
After a dramatic Week Three victory over the Patriots, the Ravens welcome in the AFC North rival Cleveland Browns to Baltimore tonight. Kick off is 8:30 p.m.
Cleveland fell to 0-and-3 after losing at home to Buffalo last Sunday, 24-14.
Baltimore has won eight straight against Cleveland, with its last loss coming in November of 2007.
On Sunday the Green Bay Packers will play the New Orleans Saints at Lambeau. Kick-off is set for 4:40 eastern time
The Detroit Lions play the Minnesota Vikings at Ford Field. Game time is 1:00pm.
The Chicago Bears play the Dallas Cowboys on Monday Night Football.
